Tooling Engineer

Job Description

Tool Designer & Technical Support Engineer — Belgium

We are recruiting, on behalf of an industrial specialist in the design and manufacture of custom precision tooling, a Tool Designer & Technical Support Engineer to join a human-scale team in full growth.

Context

The company designs and produces precision tools used in industrial extrusion processes, working directly with demanding clients across Europe.

To support its development, it is looking for a profile capable of taking full ownership of the design cycle — from 3D modelling to the first production trials — while providing technical advisory support to the commercial teams and clients. The role is product development-driven, not serial production.

Duties

Key responsibilities

  • Full 3D tooling design (CAD): end-to-end ownership from specifications to first workshop trials
  • Active participation in sampling and pre-series phases within the production workshop
  • Control and validation of finished tools and products using high-precision measuring instruments
  • Design of optimised geometric solutions in response to client needs, balancing performance requirements and process feasibility
  • Contribution to technical analyses: thermal and mechanical simulations to validate design choices
  • Structured technical support to the commercial teams: helping analyse client projects and guiding technical decisions
  • Direct client interaction on product-related technical aspects (phone, Teams, occasional on-site visits)

Key challenges

  • Master a niche profession at the crossroads of precision mechanics, materials science and thermal engineering — supported by a full one-year internal training programme across the group's European sites
  • Ensure the quality and conformity of designed tools in a fully custom environment where every project is different
  • Act as the technical interface between internal teams (production, sales) and clients: translating client constraints into concrete tooling solutions
  • Build progressive autonomy across the full design cycle, from initial modelling through to field trials
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of design and validation processes

Skills & Knowledge

  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, materials science or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in CAD/DAO. Experience in tooling, extrusion, moulding or precision mechanics is a genuine asset
  • Proficiency in a 3D modelling software (SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with thermal and/or mechanical simulation tools (Ansys, Comsol or equivalent) is appreciated
  • Metrological rigour: comfortable with measuring instruments and tolerance requirements
  • Strong communicator, at ease in technical exchanges with clients
  • Trilingual NL / EN / FR — essential in the Belgian and international context of this role
  • Hands-on, autonomous, curious profile, able to integrate easily into a close-knit team

Our offer

A technically rich position in a company with a flat hierarchy where every team member has real impact. A dynamic, people-first, solutions-oriented environment.

The full one-year internal training programme (multi-site, across Europe) ensures a solid and progressive build-up of expertise in a high-value niche profession.

  • Permanent contract (CDI) — 40h/week + 12 RTT days/year
  • Package up to €80,000 gross/year + meal vouchers + full group & hospitalisation insurance (dental, optical, outpatient) + company car & fuel card OR mobility budget
